What is Pilates?

Developed in the early 1900’s, The Pilates Method is a complete mind-body exercise system. Much more than a traditional fitness program, Pilates is an integrated approach to movement that uniformly develops the body. Pilates tends to strength core muscles and helps to correct misalignments that may constrain mobility. Through a series of controlled movements that engage the mind and body in developing strong flexible muscles, without building bulk. Emphasis is placed on developing deep torso strength and flexibility know as centering – to ensure proper posture and reduce risk of injury. You will also notice that individuals with Pilates training inevitably have better posture and straighter spines than before they started. The Pilates Method places great emphasis on correct posture and technique and does not rely upon high numbers of repetitive exercise to achieve results. Longer, leaner muscles build strength and endurance with maximum flexibility. Pilates integrates the mind and body to achieve one’s physiological goals, has been praised by fitness experts worldwide.

Pilates is Exercise Focused on the Core
Joseph Pilates referred to the core as the  “power house” and is designed to engage the mind as well as the body. Through teaching mental focus and body awareness, tension is released and proper alignment is achieved.

Pilates Conditioning Targets
Deep postural muscles, builds core strength, rebalances the body and improves alignment. Improves posture and helps to reshape the body by building a longer, leaner more flexible musculature.
The results? A body that is both strong and flexible.
