Our Certified Pilates Instructors have passed through the rigorous program of training and theory established by Joseph Pilates himself. Certified Instructors will maximize your workout and reduce the possibility of injury. Mike Wright's Bio

Before his career in Pilates, Michael Wright was certified as a Personal Trainer, Sports Conditioniong Specialist and Medical Exercise Specialist. He was also certified as a Massage Therapist and eventually taught massage.

Mike began practicing and studying Pilates in 1991, in the Washington DC area. Micheal began his study of Pilates 20 years ago when Pilates was not well known. In order to learn Pilates Michael had to travel extensively in the US for 8 years to learn from the top Pilates Teachers around the country. After twenty years of study, Mike and his wife Edna have combined the best elements of the principle schools of Pilates to form The Body College ciriculum of today.

Mike began his Pilates training with the 500 Hour Mat and Apparatus training with Lighthouse Pilates Certifications, taught by dancer Elizabeth O’Boyle, in 1992. Elizabeth studied Pilates for 30 years and learned from Ron Fletcher who studied with Joseph Pilates himself. Mike has trained and attended certification courses for twenty years with the following teachers, all leaders in their fields:

  • Elizabeth Larkim and Brent Anderson, co-founders of Polestar rehabilitative Pilates as well as Sherri Betz of Polestar
  • Cathy Corey, Ron Fletcher’s “West Coast” Pilates
  • Elizabeth Gilles, Pilates Functional Fitness in New York
  • Michelle Larson of Core Dynamics, Master Pilates Instructor
  • Lesley Powell, Movements Afoot, New York
  • Kelley Kane, The Kane School Of Core Integration
  • Juliu Horvath, Sebastian Plettenberg and Alesia Fowler, Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teacher training program
  • Mike is a also a Master Golf Conditioning Specialist, trained by Dr. Greg Rose, co-founder of theTitleist Performance Institute in San Diego, California.
  • Mike has also attended and continues to attend continuing education workshops and specialized courses including those by Marika Molnar: one of the most knowledgeable Pilates anatomists of today and Liz Koch, “The Psoas Lady.”

In 1998 Mike opened his first Pilates Studio in Washington DC. One year later Michael became a certifiying studio and certifying instructor and for one of the largest Pilates organizations in the US. For the past 12 years, Mike has certified over 1000 instructors in Pilates Apparatus, Mat and Continuing Education courses. He continues to learn from the leading teachers of Pilates and Movement and is grateful for the opportunity to do so.
