Gyrotonic Expansion System

Using Gyrokenesis as the foundation for a revolutionary exercise system, the Gyrotonic Expansion System trains and strengthens your muscles while simultaneously mobilizing and articulating your joints. Body College's certified trainers can expand your Pilates? experience by adding Gyrotonic components to your exercise program.

This unique system emphasizes multiple joint articulations without compression. This enables you to actually strengthen the ligaments and their attachments, helping prevent injury. The natural motion patterns used make it an ideal form of exercise for rehabilitation as well. The continuous motion patterns created through rotating movements of the joints result in a strong, balanced support system for the musculo-skeletal system.

Gyrotonic exercise has been described as "yoga with resistance." Juliu Horvath, a principal dancer in the world renowned Rumanian State Opera, developed his Gyrotonics system in the late 1980s. He based his system upon yoga, ballet, swimming, dance, tai chi and gymnastics. The Gyrotonics system emphasizes breath control, controlled resistance, and the development of flexibility and strength. Horvath's exercises encourage a complete range of circular motion and full articulation of stabilized joints.
